Sodium Stearyl Fumarate (SSF) is used as lubricant at concentrations between 0.5% and 2.0% in the manufacturing of tablets, capsules and other oral dosage forms. It is mostly used in the pharmaceutical industries, but also in food products and is listed as GRAS.

Parmlub SSF is produced by the reaction of stearyl fumarate with sodium hydroxide followed by purification, micronisation and drying.

Parmlub SSF is used in a similar way as Parmlub (Magnesium Stearate) and has basically the same lubrication efficiency. Due to its lower hydrophobicity characteristic, it does not extend tablet disintegration time and is especially suitable for formulations with poorly soluble API. Furthermore, Parmlub SSF shows very good compatibility with most APIs and excipients and has less impact on tablet strength compared to Magnesium Stearate. Moreover, it has a higher melting point that renders it suitable for use at very high tableting speeds. Thus, Parmlub SSF is the perfect lubricant for robust and high performance formulations.
